Ode To A Magnetic Strip

My workshop has never been neat and tidy. Don't get me wrong, everything has a place, but when I'm in the midst of fabricating, I need it all right at my fingertips. Tangles of tools pile up in an order that only I can decipher (sometimes). Pliers, hammers, wires, saws, and tweezers heap together and begin to hinder. Efficiency goes down the drain and takes motivation with it.

And then there are my metal files, hanging neatly on that magnetic strip (picture me, head tilted to one side gazing lovingly). Just look at them all— waiting at the ready, like soldiers in formation. Simple physics keep them orderly, recognizable, and within an arm's reach. Makes me want to...make.

What makes life easier in your workshop/studio/home?

  1. Hmmm... I wish I had a neat way to make my life easier in my creative space. I am scattered around here, so I go from wanting and needing organization to making messes.

  2. What a great idea! We have one of those on our fridge for the knives..up high away from little hands that are mesmerized by them.

  4. I really love this glimpse into your workshop! How very inspiring! The pink and greys are beautiful too!

I use my computer as a tool for most of my creative work, so for me it's extra important to keep it beautiful, simple and somewhat organised. I use the app Evernote to store my clippings of text and images. On my desk I always keep a few beautiful items that inspire me.

  5. That is so clever. I'm in the process of organizing all of my yarn and fabric so I will have to get back to you on the organizing tip. I just love this idea. It makes everything so handy. How's the garden going? Is it warm enough to plant yet? My strawberries are going in today.
